Full Text
I sail'd from St. Christophers the 18th of March last, bound for London, with a Load of Sugar, the Produce of that Island; and had from Mr. Richard Rowland, a Parcel of Brazilletto Wood, which came from the Island of Providence, and for which Bond was given in the said Island. On the 24th of the said Month, in the Latitude of 31, near Bermuda, was taken by a Spanish Guard la Costa (or more properly a Pirate,) who used me after their accustomed Manner; and brought me in here the first of May; and they pretend to condemn the Ship and Cargo on account of the said Wood, and have too much Reason to fear they will do it. I am detain'd on board my Ship a Prisoner. I have only left of my Men, John Thring, Thomas Prowing; James Forrber, John Webb, and Charles Ward; they kept on board the Guard la Costa, Robert Mavekie first Mate, Samuel Herbert Second Mate, Three of my Foremast Men, and Two Boys Thomas Harwood, and Benjamin Perreval; which I pray you will put in your News Papers; my Trouble is too great that I cannot express myself; Which I hope you will excuse.
I am yours,
Havannah, June 18, 1737.
John Kirsebergh.
