This is a pleasing account, but the following cannot be read without feeling emotions of sorrow and pity. There are about 2500 persons committed for trial in one year--Annual depredations amount to £1,000,000; 18 persons, 5104 alehouses within the bills of mortality. Amount of coins counterfeited £500,000 per ann. About 9000 receivers of stolen goods. About 10,000 servants at all times out of place, 50,000 persons rise every morning without knowing how they shall subsist through the day.
