The Normal Teachers Institute,
which closed its labors in this village on
Friday evening, created but little interest
among our citizens, yet, we feel confident
its fruit will be seen hereafter. There
were seldom more than two or three visitors
in during the day, and the evening
lectures were generally to small audiences.
But those who did attend, appeared to
feel deep interest in the efforts being
made to advance the cause of Education
while the Teachers present as well as those
having charge of the Institute, appeared
to be fired with a zeal highly commendable.
Their efforts, though apparently feeble,
like the first workings of the leaven hid
in the meal, we have no doubt, will have
a salutary effect upon the cause of
Education in this vicinity. Such was the
determined character manifested by both
Professors and Teachers, that the public
may rest assured, let others act as they
may, they will not shrink under the heavy
load placed upon them, but with a persevering
energy, labor on in so good a cause
until success shall crown their efforts, and
the world have reason to rejoice that there
were those, though few in number, who
were willing to spend their best days for
the benefit of posterity.
May they live to see the time when the
schools of our country shall be looked upon
as the nurseries of all that is good and
virtuous: when from them shall emanate
such an influence as shall raise the profession
of teaching to its proper level, and
render unnecessary further efforts, such
as they have cheerfully put forth to sustain
and elevate it.

It is the intention of Dr. Lapp to hold
Institutes throughout the State during
the season. He commenced one at Monroe
on Monday last, which will be followed
by one at Elk Horn on the 30th, at
Janesville on the 6th of September, and
at Shullsburg on the 20th of September,
commencing at 2 o'clock P.M., at each
place.
