We noticed a card of some two or three dozen of book-marks' done in bead-work on perforated paper; and the mottoes on most of them were full of significance. As a specimen: one done in gold-like letters read, 'Rev. John Pierpont, the Christian Martyr of the 19th century;' and another done in black, as follows, 'Rev. David Fosdick, like People, like Priest.'
Without questioning the truthfulness of the latter sentiment, we must nevertheless say that it has at length come to light that the 'people' spoken of do not at all like' their priest, Rev. David Fosdick.' They have fallen out by the way, and have determined to separate. We learn, on reliable authority, that Mr. Fosdick will preach his farewell sermon next Sunday.
We have always been sure that this shameful connexion could not long continue. But its destruction has come even earlier than we had looked for.—M.
