THE NEW RAILROAD BRIDGE.

The new Railroad Bridge across the Kennebec in this city is now complete and ready for travel. It is an elegant structure of which we may justly feel proud. When we compare it with the old bridge, whose place it has taken, we involuntarily feel that the great freshet did us no harm in sweeping the old one away.

The materials and workmanship of the bridge are of the best and most substantial character, while its airy and lofty appearance as it springs from span to span and shore to shore is a delight to the observer. Bridging one of the most important rivers in the country, and becoming a part of the great direct highway of travel between the east and west, it is worthy of its position, and speaks grandly of the public spirit, liberality, and far-sightedness of the corporation to which it owes its existence. The traveling public must regard with pleasure this generous outlay for their safety, and our immediate citizens be gratified at the addition which is made to the attractions of our city, while the State may point to it with pride.

Few States can boast of a similar structure to equal it.
