"Community Chest"
Heavy on Chest and

NEW ORLEANS. Jan. 17.-

The budget of the community chest organized for sweet charity's sake has been placed at $1,177,001.14. However, out of this sum, twenty-five thousand dollars will be expended for remuneration to the drones for collection and necessary expenses, $120,000 for "emergency funds and maintenance of headquarters." The American legion is down for $7,982.50, and the boy scouts, composed of the sons of well to do parents, receive $20,699.35 for the maintenance of headquarters, and salaries of so-called scout masters. Well, as the late lamented P. T. Barnum said "there is one born every minute."

In this city the clock is running fast and going rapidly.
