The Democratic State Central Committee met in this city yesterday and proceeded to elect delegates to the National Convention at Baltimore. And although no resolutions were adopted expressive of the sentiments of the Committee, yet it is understood that the delegates elected to that Convention are all favorable to the indorsement of Greeley, should no changes occur in the political situation between this and the meeting of the Baltimore Convention. The Committee declined to pass any resolutions or give any instructions to the delegates with respect to national affairs, as it did not consider it within the scope of its legitimate duties to make a platform for the party or bind the delegates elected to any particular line of policy. The sentiments of the Committee, as expressed informally in the meeting, were decidedly in favor of the nomination of Greeley as the Democratic standard bearer at Baltimore. In pursuing this course, we think the Committee acted wisely, as without the Democratic lines are closed up and its masses thrown solidly for the standard bearer, whoever he may be, there is not a possible hope for the overthrow of the Grant administration. It is admitted on all sides that in the cohesiveness of the Democratic party, by means of its well trained forces and powerful organization, are found the only hope for the defeat of Grant and the restoration of the country to good government. Let the Democracy therefore stand by their guns and calmly await the action of the Baltimore Convention, with a firm resolve that whatever sacrifice of personal feeling may be regarded as necessary on behalf of the individual members of the party, will be cheerfully made when the voice of the party has been heard in National Convention. The passage of resolutions at this time by the Committee could, in no way, have aided the delegates to the National Convention in coming to a correct judgment as to what they ought to do when they meet the delegates from all sections of the Union at Baltimore, and we think therefore were wisely omitted from the proceedings.
DEMOCRATIC STATE CENTRAL COMMITTEE.—The State Central Committee met yesterday at the office of A. C. Ellis, Esq., Chairman. All present but Messrs. Sunderland, Gardner and Hill. The following named gentlemen were elected delegates to the National Democratic Convention, to be held at Baltimore July 9th, viz: Wm. B. Thornburg and Thos. H. Williams, of Storey; S. B. Wyman, of Lander; George G. Berry, of Humboldt; G. W. Lightner, of Lincoln; and G. F. Alexander, of White Pine. As alternates the following were also elected: J. M. Quinby, of Storey; S. B. Kreider, of Elko; J. H. Dennis, of Lander; J. H. Flack, of Elko; W. F. Anderson, of White Pine; and W. H. Henderson, of Lincoln. After the adjournment of the meeting an informal vote was had, which resulted as follows: Eleven for Greeley and three for straight nominations; but, in the event of Greeley's indorsement by the Baltimore Convention, the entire vote will be for Greeley. It was understood that the absentees were all in favor of Greeley's nomination.
