Bulk delivery to the Aleutian Islands and Bering Sea ports of petroleum products and the completion of storage tanks at important points for better serving needs of mining and fishing industries over a large area is announced by the Standard Oil Company of California. The move is one of the most important affecting Alaska made in years, writes E. J. Dalby in the Seattle P.-I.
Bulk storage tanks constructed by the Standard Oil Company at central stations, such as Dutch Harbor, Platinum, Bethel and Nome together with a commercial bring bulk distribution to the area. Heretofore it was dependent upon supplies shipped from the Pacific Coast in iron barrels and cases.
Over Wide Area
This further development of the company's Alaskan service is of particular importance to mine operators and salmon packers in the Bering Sea range where in the past, in some localities, consumers have had to place orders a year in advance.
The change in method of supply will result in a substantial reduction in cost to consumers and is expected to have an accelerating effect on operations of industries.
