Full Text

The Express in noticing the meeting of the Butte Democracy on Tuesday night, reminds us that we neglected to inform our readers regarding the number in attendance. For the benefit of the Express and our Democratic friends and cotemporaries generally, we will state the facts, that the meeting was held in the Court House, that the large hall was completely crowded—the number present being at least three hundred and fifty persons—and that it was one of the most orderly, harmonious and attentive assemblages ever congregated in Oroville. The resolutions and speeches were received with marked approbation and the fairest possible expression of sentiment upon the question under discussion was obtained. All these particulars should have been stated in our report of the meeting, had not the lateness of the hour when the meeting adjourned, left us "no room or time for comment" as the State Journal says while waiting for "a starter" upon the important questions of the day.

We hope our Democratic neighbors of Yuba and of other counties will hold similar meetings. Let it be known who are Democrats and who are Lecomptonites.
