Full Text

The true Character of Lewis the fifteenth in Imitation of an Epigram of Casimire.

I am a conquering King...in vaunting pride
The conquer'd Lewis to his subjects cry'd...
Mars heard and smil'd... and be thou still a tool,
Still be the sport of Mars, and Fortune's fool:
I've seen thee long by Folly's charms beguil'd
At once a slave....a tyrant....and a child.
War calls to arms...you scorn it's angry roar,
Nor heed a conquest.. but on Pompadour.
Three needful precepts let a George II. Briton give
Go...learn to reign,..to conquer...and to live.
