Gets J. A. Hardin In Trouble-Officer Kirkley Landed Him In The City Prison.
Police Officer George Kirkley arrested yesterday J. A. Hardin, a white man, on the charge of passing spurious money.
Hardin gave a little negro boy a counterfeit silver dollar and told him to go to J. H. Harrison's grocery store, located at the corner of Twenty-second street and Eighth avenue, and purchase 5 cents worth of Star navy tobacco. The boy went to the store indicated by Hardin and bought the tobacco. The negro gave Mr. Hardin the dollar, which afterwards proved a counterfeit. Mr. Harrison telephoned to police headquarters for an officer, and Patrolman Kirkley responded, and Hardin was, on the arrival of the officer, pointed out by the negro boy as the man who gave him the dollar to buy the tobacco. As the result of Hardin's experiment, he now occupies a cell in the city prison.
