Full Text

A BAND OF PRAYING MEN is threatened in Virginia City. It is the dreadful pen of Dan de Quille which tells us that this phalanx of crusaders 'expect to enlist Rev. T. H. McGrath and one or two other ministers as leaders in the good cause, and that they hope to be able to start out on their raid in strong force next Monday morning. The prayers of this band of masculine malcontents will be made in front of our principal dry goods stores. Once there turn loose, the groans and 'amens' will no doubt be most fervent and fearful to hear. When all are in full blast in front of some popular establishment, a sound will go up like that heard when a band of wild cattle have discovered a pool of blood and are pawing the ground with their hoofs, lashing the air with their tails and rending the heavens with bellowings. Then woe unto the handsome, fashionable, and glib-tongued young clerks: They will be seen calling upon the mountains of dress goods and shawls and laces to fall upon them and hide them from the wrath of 'Gideon's Band.'
