THIRD ASSEMBLY IN GEORGIA

Plans for the thirty-third annual meeting of the National Association of Teachers in Colored Schools, which is to be held in Atlanta beginning Tuesday, July 28, are being formulated by the local committee on arrangements, which is headed by Mrs. M. Agnes Jones.

The sessions will be held on campuses of Atlanta University, Spelman College and Morehouse College and will open on the night of July 28 with a program in Sisters Chapel at which greetings to the national body will be given by local spokesmen, response will be made by Dr. Garnet C. Wilkinson, assistant superintendent of schools of Washington, D. C., and past president of the association, and the annual presidential address will be delivered by Dr. Rufus Clement, president of Louisville Municipal College, who is president this year of the National Association.

The 1933 meeting will be the third to be held in the state of Georgia since the organization of the association in 1904. In 1905 the association convened in Atlanta and in 1914 it met in Savannah. Three Georgians have served as its president

Program for the opening session
in Sisters Chapel will include an
introductory musical program with
an organ prelude. Miss Florence M
Read, president of Spelman College
will act as the temporary presiding
officer at this session and Mrs.
Jones, chairman of the local com-
mittee on arrangements will make
the opening remarks. The invoca-
tion will be given
by
President
S. H. Archer of Morehouse col-
lege.
The program. as tentatively plan-
ned, calls for brief speeches of
greeting from M. D Collins. state
superintendent of schools, in beha'f
of the state and from Willis A
Sutton, Atlanta superintendent of
schools and former president of th,
National Education Association. in
behalf of the city. Colonel A. T
Walden is scheduled to welcome the
association members in half of
the citizens
of Atlanta.

Mrs. H. R. Butler. its first pres-
ident and now its executive secre-
tary.
The response
to this series of
welcoming addresses will be. made
by the president of the associa-
tion in 1935. Dr. Garnet C. Wilk-
inson. At the conclusion of his
speech he will present the gavel to
the incoming president. Dr. Ru-
fus Clement. who will make the
annual address. Dr. Clement was
chosen president at the 32nd meet-
ing of the association held in July.

The musical program
for the
opening session and for the succeed-
ing sessions will be in charge of a
committee headed
by Professor
Kemper Harreld of Morehouse and
Spelman colleges.
Since 1904 the association has
held 32 meetings, the first being
in Nashville, Tennessee. In the
intervening years the sessions have
been held in the following states:
Ohio Louisiana. West Virginia.
Georgia, Oklahoma, Virginia, Ken-
tucky. North Carolina,
Arkansas.
South Carolina, Maryland, Alabama
Texas. Mississippi and the District
of Columbia,
