Full Text
The assassin was a deserter, who probably had a grudge against Buel. Parties were set on the watch for him, and a day or two ago he was discovered making for the Missouri side of the river, in a skiff. He was ordered to surrender, when he raised a musket, and was about bringing, but the guards drew their revolvers, and mortally wounded him. He is now at the Fort, and can live but a few days, at farthest. His name is Malone—a name which at once suggests a nationality synonymous with brutality and treachery.
