We expected to have been able, ere this, to furnish our readers with the report of the proceedings connected with the recent close of the Academic year in this institution. They have not yet come to hand.
It affords the highest satisfaction to know that President Shattuck has consented to permanently connect his interest with the success of the Centenary College, and continue to be its permanent head. This seemed all that was wanting to place the entire success of the institution beyond a doubt, and we rejoice, exceedingly, that the wishes of the Trustees and all the friends of the College have been, thus, gratified.
At the recent commencement, the degree of Bachelor of Arts was conferred by President Shattuck, upon the following named gentlemen, viz: Wesley P. Winnans, Centreville, Miss.; Everette Lewis, Brandon, Miss.; Thomas A. Freeland, Rodney, Miss.; Charles C. Mayson and John W. Hargrove, Jackson, Miss. It will be observed, says the Feliciana Whig, that all the graduates are Mississippians. This may be accounted for, from the fact that the removal of the college to Jackson is of a recent date.
