Gardner Announces Candidacy

SHELBY, N. C.-(AP)-Ernest A. Gardner, Shelby lawyer, announced today he will be a candidate for Governor in the Democratic primary in May.

Gardner has represented Cleveland county three terms in the state House of Representatives. For a time he served as special counsel of the North Carolina Highway and Public Works Commission, but ceased that connection with the advent of the administration of Gov. W. Kerr Scott.

Gardner is a third cousin of former Gov. O. Max Gardner.
