Palisade Tribune:
John Otto of Grand Junction was in Palisade again on Wednesday, and said he had been so busy gathering peaches of late that he had little time to think of the trail to Grand Mesa which he talked of a few weeks ago, but still believes it to be a good thing. Mr. Otto is a pioneer in his line and is a founder of Monument park below Grand Junction.
He believes that Palisade ought to have some place near at hand for pleasure-seekers, and says the Grand Mesa offers many inducements in that respect.
Mr. Otto is in receipt of the following letter from F. R. Moise of Marshalltown, Ia.:
"I see by a recent issue of the Palisade Tribune that you recommend a trail from Palisade to the Grand Mesa. I believe the completion of such a project would aid that section materially. I have interested a number of people there, and find many who ask about the fishing and summer conveniences, where they can go to spend a few weeks in the mountains. I meet people looking for a residence section like Palisade, so they can be handy to the mountains during the hot weather, on account of their families. I hope you will push this matter, as I believe it to be a good thing for Palisade."
On Wednesday Mr. Otto climbed to the top of the palisades north of town, and is of the opinion that perhaps a trail ought to be constructed in that direction first, as it would be easier of access and attract more people right at the start. He would have the trail built so that the top could be easily reached by pedestrian parties in an evening, and with horses, when it was desired to travel that way. People would go up there much oftener, and the success of the undertaking would soon be demonstrated and would make it easier to afterward construct the Grand Mesa trail.
