Full Text

A letter from Algiers says, that an English frigate entered that harbour the 12th of last month with two white flags, one at her main and the other at her foremast, was saluted by 21 cannon from the Castle, to which he made no return till the English Consul came on board. Then the Commander of the frigate claimed the Genoese Fullucca taken by the Algerines, when under English colour provided with a British pass, declaring, "that if he was not directly restored with all her crew the peace would be broken between Great-Britain and the state of Algiers."

To which the Dey sent him for answer, "That what was done was done, and that the English might take what course they thought best." Upon this answer the Commander of the frigate, without vouchsafing to receive any refreshments, nor take charge of a letter from the Dey, put off to sea again, steering towards Genoa, doubtless to give Commodore Harrison an account of his mission.
