Reports On Negroes'
Registration In Macon

TUSKEGEE (ANP)—The Tuskegee civic association last week reported the findings of an eight-year study of registration efforts of Negroes in Macon county. The data was entered into the records at a hearing of the U. S. Commission on Civil Rights, which was held in Montgomery, Dec. 8.

The association revealed the delaying and evasive techniques used by white officials to slow down the process of application of Negroes seeking to register to vote. A Negro must be registered to vote.

According to the report, 27,384 of a total of 30,561 in Macon county are Negroes. Of this number, only 1,100 Negroes are registered voters.

On the other hand, of 3,177 white residents, the current voter list shows that 3,016 are registered.
