By OLAF HALVERSON
One of our outer major planets is Neptune, and at present it is just east of the Autumnal Equinox. Neptune is therefore only a short distance to the east of the sun.
Neptune is pale green in color. A planet's color indicates the composition of its atmosphere.
Neptune has a diameter of 32,000 miles or four times that of the earth. It takes Neptune 165 years to revolve around the sun.
The discovery of Neptune was very interesting. Early in the 19th century it was found that Uranus was deviating from its theoretical positions. Two young astronomers, Adams in England and LeVerrier in France began to study the irregular movement of Uranus. Adams began his work in 1843 and LeVerrier in 1845. Adams reached the results first while LeVerrier, with the aid of the Berlin observatory, actually saw Neptune through the telescope on Sept. 23, 1846.
