Jan. 8. We are happy in assuring the public, that by the latest accounts from Hispaniola, that which was inserted in a former Gazette, of American vessels being excluded from the French trade, in that and other French West India islands, was premature.--The order was but temporary, and only restricted to the port of Cape Francois, thro' the request of many French merchants to the governor, who lately had glutted that market with flour. Every other port in that island was, and is open to us; and the governor, naval commander and others of the French nation are warmly disposed towards us and confer every favor on the trading Americans. But we are assured that, in addition to the other restrictions which the king and ministry of Britain have lately laid on our trade, they have since imposed a heavy duty on our rice, imported into England.

Latest accounts from Hispaniola indicate that previous reports of American vessels being excluded from French trade in that island and other French West India islands were premature. The order was temporary and restricted only to the port of Cape Francois, at the request of French merchants due to recent glut of flour. Every other port in the island was and is open to American trade. The governor, naval commander, and others of the French nation are warmly disposed toward Americans and confer favors on trading vessels. Additionally, Britain has imposed a heavy duty on American rice imported into England, in addition to other recent trade restrictions.
