Full Text

Extract of a letter from Dantzic, April 16.

The respect which his Prussian Majesty has testified for the mediation of Great Britain was not strong enough to be long lived. He has this day not only re-demanded all the duties and imposts, new and old, which he had before exacted, for some time, but has commanded the Magistrates and merchants to pay, within the space of twenty four hours, the arrears due during the last time he had suspended his exactions. This is the more incomprehensible as we had been given to understand that the Empress of Russia had again very lately engaged herself to your court, that she would prevail on the King of Prussia to desist from his enormous and unjust pretensions on us.
