To Tour East
NEW ORLEANS - The Dillard University Choir will be on tour in the East from October 9 through the 24th.
The highlight of the tour will occur when the choir sings at the Eastern Regional Meeting of the Congregational Christian Churches at Providence, Rhode Island on October 17.
The 40 voiced mixed group will also sing in Washington, D. C.; Montclair, New Jersey; Worcester, Massachusetts; Manchester, New Hampshire; Framingham, Massachusetts; New York City and Boston, Massachusetts. It is an a capella ensemble composed of voices selected by audition from all divisions of the University. The members this year are drawn from ten States ranging from New York to California and Ohio to Florida.
The choir has received favorable comments and recognition on last year's work under the direction of Henry Booker. Mr. Booker received his training at Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music, from which schools he holds three degrees.
The program for the tour will consist of choral masterpieces of a capella music, liturgical music, the music of modern composers, and Negro Spirituals.
