On Saturday last, the Boston Assembly passed a bill granting compensation to sufferers and pardon to offenders in recent times, which received the Governor's consent the same day. Saturday last the bill entitled as follows, An act for granting compensation to the sufferers, and of free and general pardon, indemnity, and oblivion, to the offenders in late times, passed both Houses of Assembly now sitting here, to which his Excellency was pleased to give his consent the same day.
The House it is said passed resolutions to the following effect, previous to passing the bill:
That the grant was made in loyal and grateful regard to his Majesty's mild and gracious recommendation, for the sake of internal peace and order, but without any regard to the Governour's interpretation, and under a full persuasion the sufferers had no just claim or demand of right against the province; and that those of them who applied home, instead of first applying here, are very reprehensible. That the resolves of Assembly here last year could not be the occasion of riots two months preceding.
