FORT WAYNE.

Judging from present appearances, we should suppose that the ensuing season would produce a greater alteration in this town, than any previous year. A bridge across the St. Mary's river has been contracted for, and will be completed by the first day of October next. Funds have been raised for the erection of two meeting houses, both of which will speedily be put under contract: and we are informed that the number of dwelling houses proposed to be erected here during the summer, is unprecedentedly great. In addition to this, that part of the canal running through the town is intended to be located and put under contract. Two causes have hitherto retarded the growth of this town—the scarcity of mechanics, and the want of building materials; but now that the advantages of this place, and the inducement it offers to enterprising and industrious mechanics, are becoming more known abroad, we may reasonably hope that the first of these causes will no longer exist: and the improvements which have been made in the mills in this vicinity, and the new ones which have been erected, give reason to believe that the inconvenience arising from the scarcity of lumber, if not altogether obviated, will at least be greatly lessened. A steam mill is intended to be erected here, during the summer, and will be ready to commence operations in the fall. Would it not be well for those of our eastern brethren who are preparing to move west, to turn their eyes in this direction?— Industrious men of any description—farmers, mechanics, or laborers—might come here with a certainty of success. The land is of excellent quality and easy to acquire; laborers and artificers are in great demand; wages are good; cash is more abundant than in almost any other newly settled country; and last though not least, the climate is particularly healthy.
