A day or two since an individual called at our office, and stated that he had arrested Baker, the man who killed Bill Poole, had him even then at a place, near Carrollton, heavily ironed, and under strict surveillance, intending to carry him to New York as soon as possible. He gave us the information as an item of news. We were, however, disposed to look upon the matter as either a hoax, or else the individual in question was out of his mind. But subsequent events give an air of probability of his statement. That same evening a man was placed on board one of our steamers, so heavily ironed that he could not move a muscle, and in this condition was conveyed up the river. The question now is, "Was it Baker?" We shall very soon probably receive a solution of the mystery by way of New York: N. O. Delta, 27th.
