It is confidently asserted that the Hon. Rufus King, and Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, will be the Federal candidates for President and Vice-President at the ensuing election.—And the Hon. Thomas Jefferson, and George Clinton, will be the democratic candidates.
The Hon. Aaron Burr, is candidate for the Governor's chair in New York.
The electioneering campaign is opened in New Hampshire. Gov. Gilman is promised the vigorous support of the Federalists and his old rival, the "long-tried patriot," is again put up in opposition.
In Massachusetts, the nomination is again made in favor of our present worthy Governor, Caleb Strong—and Lieut. Governor Edward H. Robbins.—They will be opposed by the Hon. James Sullivan, and William Heath.
Several nominations are made for Senators from Maine, for the ensuing political year.—In York county, the Federal candidates are the Hon. Simon Frye, and John Lord, Esqs. They will unquestionably be powerfully opposed, as a great jacobin meeting is to take place in the county on Monday next; when a system of opposition will doubtless be organized, and every democrat drilled to the service.
In Cumberland county, we have as yet received no other nominations than the Hon. Woodbury Storer, and Dr. Ammi R. Mitchell. We think these gentlemen will unite the usual federal votes of the county.
Other candidates may be named; but it is hoped a spirit of union will govern in the choice.
For Lincoln, &c. we understand that the Hon. David Cobb, Mark L. Hill and William King, Esqs. are in nomination.
Kennebeck is considered as given up for the present, as sporting ground of the jacobins. Gen. Chandler, will probably succeed in that county.
