Calif. Judge Is Re-Elected

LOS ANGELES-(ANP)- Negro candidates for public office fared badly in the primary election here last Tuesday. Of all the candidates for a place on the city council and the board of education, none won. The only one to come out on top was the sole municipal judge in the city, Judge Edwin L. Jefferson, who was reelected.

In the seventh councilmanic district, closely watched because it contains the largest number of colored voters, Rev. Gaston placed third with 1,005 votes as against the incumbent Carl Rasmussen with 3,000. Next to the minister was Atty. Vince Monroe Townsend with 158 tallies.

Negro candidates out of the eighth district withdrew from the contest leaving the field open to the popular Charles "Cap" Allen.

B. B. Bratton lost to the incumbent Councilman Bennett by a tally of 495 to 3,175. in the 10th district.
