Pony Express Rider: Henry W. (Cutter) Whitmore, Jr. (Carrier No. 1

CARRIER ADOPTS VERY OLD METHOD

Cutter Whitmore Uses "Pony Express" In Delivering His Paper Route

To Henry W. (Cutter) Whitmore probably falls the honor and distinction of being the only "pony express" carrier in North Carolina, as far as we know.

Cutter, who carries City route No. 1, serving subscribers from Montgomery street north and all west of Garnett street, once carried his papers on a bicycle, but someone stole his wheel several days ago, putting the lad afoot. As used to overcoming obstacles as he is, he promptly borrowed a pony and now maintains regular, prompt service on his route with his new means of transportation.

The old "express riders" may have been replaced by railroads and other forms of transportation but this modern "express rider" finds that he still can maintain good service by using the old method.
