MANILA. (P) American armed forces personnel in the Philippines were paid in military script yesterday in an effort to combat inflation in the islands.

The ban against possession of United States currency and negotiable foreign exchange instruments was extended to the military personnel of the American government. The ban already was in effect for Filipinos.

The military script will be used for transactions in service stores. American military personnel may obtain as much peso currency as they desire in exchange for their $1. Pesos, however, may not be converted into script.
