Attempt To Amend FEPC Law Rapped

The St. Paul Branch of the NAACP passed a motion at their regular membership meeting Sunday, April 12th, denouncing the action by the Minnesota State Fair Employment Practices Commission in seeking an amendment to the State Fair Employment Practices Law, making it permissible for employers to require photographs of applicants prior to holding interviews.

President stated: "This is the first time any of the human relations organizations or commissions have sought to alter a state measure dealing with civil rights without contacting the other interested organizations. Furthermore, Mr. Carter stated that the House Committee labelling this measure as non-controversial was ridiculous and only a result of the other interested bodies not having prior knowledge of the proposed amendment. Mr. Carter concluded that he seriously hoped in the future Mr. Leland, Executive Director, of the State Fair Employment Practices Commission, would at least contact the other interested organizations prior to initiating any measures to change the State Laws."
