An occurrence truly disgraceful to civilized society took place on Tuesday last, in the vicinity of the Trap, in this county. We could scarcely have believed that our community contained an individual capable of such an outrage. The general report in relation to the transaction, is—that Mr. Charles Cunningham and Mr. Isaac Griffith brothers-in-law, had some dispute as to the possession of a piece of property, belonging to the estate of their father-in-law, and in which they were equally interested. Cunningham, it seems, was resolved that Griffith should not get possession, while Griffith was quite as determined that he would. With a view of carrying his intentions into effect, Griffith repaired to the place and when about entering upon the premises was fired on, the one wounding him in the face the other in the side. The wound in the side is considered dangerous, the guns being charged with large shot, several of which the physicians have as yet been unable to extract. The parties were immediately arrested, and after a full examination before a justice of the peace, admitted to bail for their appearance at court.—Herald.
