Rain did not dampen the spirits of 104 members of a Shriners tour group from San Diego, Calif., who spent six hours in Juneau and vicinity last night. They arrived aboard the S. S. Chileotin.
The Shriners and their wives made a trip to Mendenhall Glacier and Auke Lake, visited the Territorial Museum, and saw other sights including the night life of the city.
The visitors were met by a group of local Shriners who accompanied them. Most of them were in an older age group and the party was accompanied by Dr. Charles L. Oliphant, a retired Navy heart specialist, who kept an eye on seven heart cases.
In the party was a retired Navy Admiral, John P. F. Miller, who had visited Alaska in 1915. He was impressed with the growth of the Territory since he saw it last.
Dr. Roy French Kidd, potentate, declared that they all were enjoying the trip and did not mind the rain. "It has been a most restful tour," he said.
Don B. Albertsen, cruise director, said that this was the last Shrine tour to Alaska this year.
From now on the tours will be made to Hawaii and South America, he said.
