In the general assembly held Monday, Coach Waite announced that there would be no football game this Saturday, but that practice would continue so that the team would be in trim for the game with Sparks, October 25. Principal McCracken announced that a public speaking class is to be organized and that all who are interested should submit their names in the office. Fourteen or fifteen have already signed up for this class.
The girls' glee club will make its first appearance before the student body October 20th. The girls have been practicing for the last three weeks and are rapidly progressing under the supervision of Miss Olive Colpitts.
The boys' glee club will sing before the student body, October 27th.
The high school debating society held its regular weekly meeting Tuesday evening. The program was as follows: recitation, Pauline Williams; critic, Norman Haight, and remarks by Geo. E. McCracken. The question for debate was Resolved: That the action of the supreme court of California in refusing to place the name of the LaFollette electors on the California ballot was prejudicial to the interests of the democracy. Those upholding the affirmative were James Hicks, Norman Haight and Stanley Smith; the negative, Elizabeth Johnson, Sadie Stice and Arthur Lucas.
