Melancholy Accident.—On Friday the 14th inst. a military election was held in the north part of Tyringham, for the choice of company officers. Some very thoughtless persons procured an old swivel, (as it is supposed to honor the occasion with firing,) and so imprudently charged it, that it burst, and instantly killed one person, wounded another in the side, so that his life is in imminent danger, and mangled the hand of a third person, who fired the piece.
Silas Ward, the person killed, belonged to Otis. and was about 16 years of age. Lyman Webster and Whiting Russell, are the persons wounded. The two former, we understand. were in the meeting house, and were hit by pieces of the gun which passed through the wall of the house.
