West Jefferson Ties Alder 13-13 In Friday Battle

If you're betting on West Jefferson, bet them to tie. Well, they have tied more than they have won or lost in the last twelve games. To be specific, they have tied the score in exactly half the battles, including their bout with Jonathan Alder Friday night on the West Jefferson High School Athletic field.

Jonathan Alder struck pay territory first as Underhill went over on a 2 yard plunge, climaxing a 35 yard drive. Their conversion failed. In their next attempt, they took to the air as Meeker hurled a 50 yard pass to Roby who made it good. Roby also ran the extra point to account for the full scoring by the Aldermen.

West Jefferson's first pay came after a grueling 70 yard drive as Hockenbery went over on a two yard plunge. Karnes kicked the extra point to give the Rough Riders a boost.

The next score for the Rough Riders came on a 30 yard run by Phil McDaniels to climax a 55 yard drive. It was enough to tie the score, but the lost conversion left the game in a tie.

West Jefferson completed four of thirteen passes during the game for 72 yards while Jonathan Alder completed three of eleven for 90 yards.

Dick Crompton, Jeff's outstanding lineman, was acclaimed the outstanding player of the game at offensive tackle and defensive left end.

West Jefferson meets Ashville on the home grounds Friday evening in another Darby Valley League decision.
