Full Text

Extract of a letter from Annapolis, Nov. 17, 1802.

"Agreeably to the order of the day a joint ballot of both houses of the Legislature has just been taken for a Senator to represent the state of Maryland in the Senate of the United States after the 3d of March next, when there appeared 46 votes for Gen. SAMUEL SMITH, and 30 for Gen. HOWARD."

"The Senate gave 11 votes and the House of Delegates 65, making in the whole 76 votes."

On this event we have again to congratulate our republican friends. It is but a short time since Maryland had two federal representatives in the Senate, which she has now exchanged for true republicans.
