The Isle of Oleron is situated upon the Coasts of Aunis and Saintonge at two Leagues Distance from the Continent near Rochfort. It is five Leagues in Length, two in Breadth, and twelve in Circumference, and is reckoned to contain about 12,000 Inhabitants who are excellent Seamen: The principal Places thereof are the Tower of Cheffiron; St. Dennis; St. George; Dolus; Sauzelles; St. Pierre; la Canezel; St. Andre; la Paroche, &c. Cologne Gazette.

A Courier arrived just this Instant, brings Advice that the English have taken the Isle of St. Oleron, (at which Place was the Regiment of Rouergue, composed of two Battalions, commanded by the Marquis de Schelles) and landed soon afterwards near Rochelle. The King's Household Troops have received Orders to march directly thither.
