The arrival Tuesday of a contingent of 170 selectees from Baltimore, Md., increased the personnel at Luke Field to approximately 1,600.
An additional 100 selectees is expected to arrive during the end of the week.
It is reported also that Lt. Col. E. C. Whitehead, post commander, returned Sunday from Sacramento, Calif., bringing the first twin-engined ship assigned to the airbase.
The twin-engined Martin, known as a B-10, will be one of several assigned to Luke Field for towing targets to train cadets in aerial gunnery. A gunnery range is being laid out near Ajo.
According to orders issued Monday by Lt. Col. Whitehead enlargement in the cadet office staff has become necessary because of the addition of the latest class of flying cadets which increased the cadet numbers to 90 men. Each class of 45, senior and junior is divided into two echelons.
Top-ranking officer among the cadets is Robert A. Hale, appointed cadet major. John D. Beusick and William E. Jauer were named captains of the senior and junior classes, respectively.
New lieutenants are Albert S. Kelly, Jack Cooper, Frank Aldridge, Abe J. Beck, Will Keller and Chester Moudy.
