CRIES OF MURDER
HEARD
ON
DIGNOWITY HILL
LAST NIGHT.
A Shot Fired, One Man Injured, and H. L. Dignowity Placed Under Arrest.

In the peaceful neighborhood on Dignowity Hill, last evening, about 8:30 o'clock, cries of "Murder!" were heard, coming from the direction of the residence of Henry L. Dignowity. Captain Bill Davis, the father-in-law of Mr. Dignowity, was told by his son, of the cries, saying, "Papa, Dignowity is killing Sallie." The two rushed over to the house, and what took place can best be related by giving the testimony of Captain Davis.

Captain Davis said in court:
"We started over, my son going ahead of me. I met my daughter, Dignowity's wife, coming out. She said Dignowity had kicked her and her child out of the house, and was going to kill them, and was going to kill me too. I got my shot gun to kill him, and the neighbors interfered. A shot was fired as I was leaving, and the supposition is that he (Dignowity) did the firing. He has made threats to kill me, several times, but was not man enough to do so in my presence."

The evidence of Mr. Davis' son was then heard. He said:
"I heard screams of 'murder' and I knew it was my sister. When I went over I asked her what was the trouble, and she told me. I then said, Henry, you can't harm my sister while I am here. He made a few remarks and I picked up a rock and struck him over the head. He got the best of me, and struck me several hard blows, and kicked me out at the gate. I then started home with my sister and he fired at me."

It was at that time the officers arrived and arrested Mr. Dignowity on the charge of being disorderly.

In court, after the evidence of young Davis had been taken, the recorder asked Mr. Dignowity if he had any statement to make. He said:
"I returned home last evening and my wife who is subject to fits, was suddenly taken with one."
"There ain't no fits in the family, your honor," interrupted Captain Davis.
"In the fit she cried 'murder' and I thought nothing of it, and tried to console my little child, who was crying."

The recorder then said: "Well, Mr. Dignowity, you pleaded guilty to the charge of being disorderly and I will fine you $20."

Mr. Dignowity, it has been learned, has given notice of appeal.
