The Virginia papers give the names of nearly fifty counties that have called, or already held, meetings for the appointment of delegates to the Anti-Jackson Convention, to meet at Richmond on the 2d Tuesday in January.
The Norfolk papers of Monday contain the proceedings of a large meeting of the citizens of Norfolk county on Saturday last. A spirited preamble and resolutions were adopted by the meeting, & the following gentlemen were appointed Delegates to the Convention:-
Gen. Robert B. Taylor, Capt. A. Emerson, Dr. Samuel Wiles, and J. A. Chandler.
A committee of correspondence was also appointed, consisting of forty-two gentlemen. A general meeting of the county is to be held at the Court House on the 19th inst. A communication in the Herald, states that in that portion of the county represented on Saturday, containing nearly 400 freeholders, there are fifty to one against the election of General Jackson. There were about three hundred citizens at the meeting on Saturday.—Nat. Intel.
