BALTIMORE, NOV. 5, 1862
On Saturday last the Rebels of the Bayard and Saulsbury school had a meeting at Georgetown, in Sussex County, Del., where their Southern hearts were fired up to the pitch of rebellion against the United States. On the same day the Union men held a meeting at Laurel.
On the return home of a small party of these loyalists they were met by a crowd of Rebels, who attacked them, broke up their wagons, tore to pieces their flag, and beat and kicked many of the aged defenders of their country in the most brutal manner. As soon as the news of this outrage reached headquarters in this city, Gen. Wool instantly organized an expedition, put himself in command, and embarked for the head of Nanticoke River, whence a brief march will bring him to the disaffected quarter. He left on Sunday evening by steamer.
The Rebels had avowed their intention to prevent any Union man from voting. If the expedition got there in time, it is to be hoped that its presence exerted a salutary effect upon these incipient Rebels, and restrained them from executing their contemplated raid upon the ballot-box.
