FISHERMEN ARRESTED
Found Drifting Near Clifton Without Licenses.
John Woods, Stemetvo Falongas and Stegmati Beglaries were arrested near Clifton yesterday afternoon by Deputy Warden Bultman and Water Bailiff Wickman. They were brought to Astoria and arraigned before Justice of the Peace Brower last night. The men pleaded not guilty and the trial will be held at 1 p. m. today, the defendants being released on their own recognizance.
The boat operated by Falangas was provided with a gear license issued to his brother who was not with him on the trip. The other two had neither gear nor individual licenses. The boats and nets were seized and are in the custody of Constable Kelly, pending the result of the trial. But a small percentage of the fishermen have paid the licenses demanded by the law and a rigorous patrol will be maintained on the river to catch delinquents.
