Man Shot Down Early Saturday

A 46-year-old man was seriously wounded early Saturday in what appeared to be a revenge shooting, police reported.

James Mitchell, of 441 Glenn St. S. W., Apt. 5, suffered pistol wounds of the right chest and right leg, at approximately 12:10 a. m. Saturday when he was shot down near Wells and Humphries Sts. S. W.

Detectives W. S. Acree and Lt. R. E. Little said a search was being made for a man, identified as Charlie Gates, age 30 in connection with the shooting.

A witness to the shooting, identified as Henry D. Evans, 21 of 554 Humphries St., S. W., was quoted as saying Gates walked into a cafe where Mitchell was seated and beckoned him outside.

Evans was further quoted as saying Gates told the victim "I am going to get you now." Mitchell was then shot, the witness said.
