The Republican split upon the financial question continues to grow and expand. It is stated from reliable quarters that the gold Republicans of the East, of New England, New York and Pennsylvania especially, intend to fight the nomination of McKinley or any other candidate whose platform can be charged with equivocation on the financial question, or whose platform does not come out squarely for a gold standard and nothing else. This prejudice on the part of these gold Republicans is said even to extend to all the Western candidates for the nomination.
