District Engineer Urges
Development Of Private
Industry In Alaska

ANCHORAGE, (A) - Col. L. H. Foote, Alaska District Engineer, told Governor Heintzleman Friday that military construction in the territory this year is comparable to 1952 but that it would start tapering off.

Colonel Foote and Col. E. C. Itschner, chief of the North Pacific District for the Army Corps of Engineers, advised Heintzleman to work for immediate development of private industry, presumably to absorb the slack caused by reduction in military construction.

The governor and engineer officers met in a three hour session with Chamber of Commerce directors to discuss Alaskan problems.
