Full Text

Government of Ohio.— The Legislature of the State of Ohio assembled at Columbus on the 4th instant. David Higgins was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives. Abraham Sheppard was chosen Speaker of the Senate. There is said to be a great proportion of new members, which may account for the fact, that the first subject introduced for discussion was their own compensation—that apple of discord, which annually distracts the counsels of Ohio and of other States, and which has heretofore infected also the Congress of the United States. The Message of the Governor to the Legislature has not yet reached us.
