Full Text

There are no doubt some citizens of Lumpkin who would like to know what one of their former fellow citizens did in Texas. This is the way the Lumpkin Independent puts it: The town is in receipt of very sad telegraphic news involving a formerly highly respected citizen of Lumpkin, now of Texas. We do not consider it imperative or necessary to parade the facts before the morbid and unsympathetic appetites of the news hungryards, when it can be of no possible benefit to them and is the occasion of so much pain and mortification to relatives and friends. It is the barbaric instinct that gloats over the misfortune of others, and in the course of life and events is there that many things were left unrepeated.
