It being agreed generally that Mr. Monroe should be held up as President of the U. States in the next nomination, it has been an enquiry who shall be nominated Vice President. Very honorable testimony has been given to different and very deserving citizens, who have been distinguished as Governors in different States. But the eventual nomination will be such as will easily reconcile the friends of these gentlemen, who by no means employ the eager preference imputed to them for unworthy purposes.
