POLITICAL.--Politically, things are mixed. Certain Liberal Republicans like Bross of the Chicago Tribune, and such Regulars as Colfax, Forney and Logan are hob-nobbing on some scheme, the gist of which is unknown. It may mean some other candidate than Grant at Philadelphia, and "compromise" with the Greeleyites, and it may mean something else. The Democrats are afloat: some have left the old Democratic ship, and are swimming for the Cincinnati boat, while such veterans as Voorhees are packing their saddle-bags for a trip to Baltimore to help hoist sail on the old vessel, and get her under way, with a Democratic pilot at the helm; Will there be a split in both parties?--squints that way.
